Teaching

“Creativity takes courage.” – Henri Matisse

Singing is one of the purest forms of creativity and self-expression, and true confidence and freedom in performance begin with a solid vocal technique. I work with each of my students to help them overcome vocal limitations and inhibitions, guiding them to discover a completely individual and easily produced sound - one that is capable of power, projection, and broad artistic expression.

I enjoy working with a diverse group of students, from those in the early stages of vocal study to those with active professional careers. To each student, I bring the knowledge I’ve acquired through two decades of vocal and pedagogical study, as well as my professional performance career, which includes work with many of the most notable opera companies, orchestras, coaches, teachers, and conductors in the United States and abroad.

I am proud to serve as Associate Professor of Voice and Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. In addition to teaching voice, I have taught courses in language diction, career development, and song literature for university students and young artist training programs. As a guest clinician, I’ve presented vocal workshops and master classes for organizations such as Opera America Career Workshops, Red River Lyric Opera, Taos Opera Institute, and universities including the University of Missouri–Kansas City Conservatory, University of Wisconsin–Madison, Arizona State University, University of Memphis, and others.

Students from my voice studio have achieved remarkable success, winning national and international competitions. Many have earned scholarships for undergraduate and graduate study at institutions such as the Eastman School of Music, Yale University, Manhattan School of Music, New England Conservatory, NYU, San Francisco Conservatory, University of Houston, Boston University, Boston Conservatory, and Baylor University.

I teach voice lessons at my Central Texas voice studio, and I teach online lessons to students around the country. Please complete the Contact Form for lesson inquiries.

Student Testimonials

  • “Studying with Dr. Van Eyck has helped me to create indescribable change in my singing technique, interpretation of song, and my presence both on stage and off. Her approach to teaching allows me to acknowledge the good changes I'm making while still striving to reach new heights. She is the reason I decided to study at Baylor University, and she has exceeded all of my hopes and expectations. I am always eager to enter her office as I know that I will make progress toward my personal and professional goals and leave with a better sense of myself as a singer and an artist. I am so fortunate to study with her.”

Julia P. Mezzo-Soprano, Graduate Vocal Performance

  • “Dr. Van Eyck has absolutely changed the way that I sing by helping me eliminate numerous poor vocal habits and giving me the technical skills to find my healthiest sound. She is kind at all times, responding to what the individual student needs and showing great compassion.”

Katie W. Soprano, Graduate Vocal Performance

  • “I am a person of greater courage because of Dr. Van Eyck. She challenges me to be brave, not perfect. This lesson will continue to shape all parts of my life.”

Andrea B. Mezzo-Soprano, Choral Music Education

  • “I am incredibly grateful for Dr. Van Eyck. She helped me reclaim confidence in my performing and many aspects of myself. Working with her has been healing and has inspired me to love what I do. She helped me find more success in my singing than I thought possible, to the extent that I won the Presser Award, which is the highest honor for a performer at Baylor. Our work has been so helpful in my teaching of my own students.”

Gabriel H. Bass-Baritone, Choral Music Education (Presser Scholar)

As a student of color, I feel that Dr. Van Eyck fosters an equitable learning environment that is inclusive to students of all backgrounds. She paid specific attention to advocating for every student in her vocal studio and encouraged us to advocate for ourselves. Dr. Van Eyck is empowering.”

    Tevae S. Tenor, Vocal Performance

  • “I am so grateful to Dr. Van Eyck for helping me prepare for a competitive round of graduate school auditions. I was subsequently accepted to five top graduate voice programs and decided to attend Westminster Choir College on scholarship. I wouldn’t have experienced such success without Dr. Van Eyck’s guidance and teaching.”

    Logan W. Countertenor, Vocal Performance

  • “Dr. Van Eyck's astute and compassionate teaching has caused my development as a classical singer to blossom. She is extremely skilled in her analysis of singing and subsequent instruction, and she consistently demonstrates professionalism and elegance in everything she does. I consider myself so lucky to have her as my voice teacher and mentor.”

Hannah H. Soprano, Vocal Performance (Presser Scholar)

  • “Teaching voice is incredibly sensitive work, and a teacher must be patient, well-rounded, and encouraging, yet honest and steadfast. Dr. Van Eyck truly has all these qualities. She is a vocal pedagogy wizard and can hear everything in the voice that needs work, but she knows what to prioritize when looking at long-term vocal development. She has taught me to be kinder to myself while still being relentless in practice.”

Caroline L. Mezzo-Soprano, Graduate Vocal Performance

  • “Dr. Van Eyck worked earnestly to see that I improved as a musician, a student, and a person. She guided my applications and auditions to summer training programs and graduate schools. I am now pursuing a master’s degree at the Eastman School of Music and wouldn’t be here without Dr. Van Eyck’s expert musical training and direction. I hope one day to be a collegiate professor of voice and will always look to Dr. Van Eyck’s example.”
